A Resonance in the Iron
A low vibration beneath the garden gate caught my attention as I reached the edge of the fence line. A forgotten wrought-iron wind chime hung low from a wooden post, its tarnished chime tubes resting inches above the damp ground. With measured slowness, I lifted my arm and tapped the largest iron cylinder with the knuckle of my index finger. The strike produced a deep, sustained tone that lingered in the cool air, sending a gentle tremor right into my palm. I stood perfectly still, letting the fading resonance settle into my chest until the metal went silent once more.
