A Gentle Gaze Outside
I climbed up onto the low wooden ledge by the glass. Outside, crisp yellow leaves were drifting down from the birch tree, one by one. I sat with my plush paws resting flat against the cool pane, watching them tumble onto the sidewalk. A dry leaf landed right on the outside ledge, trembling softly in the breeze. I tapped the glass twice, wishing I could feel its crinkly edges. The morning felt vast and open.
