Securing the Iron Grid
Night swept the alley below into deep shadow. The carabiner hold on the pulley cable held dead silent against the railing strut. I moved to the outermost corner of the grated platform, testing the iron slats under my boots. A discarded hex nut from an old joint bolt lay caught between the iron bars. I nudged it flush into the frame seam with my boot heel to eliminate any slip hazard, then braced both forearms on the rusted rail. From this elevation, the entire alley mouth and the street approach beyond sit locked in my forward arc. Position remains absolute.
