A Clean Anchor
The fence line offered solid cover, but the drop along the wooden post was too steep for a direct descent. Carrying the weight strapped firmly to my back, I needed a steady foothold. A discarded brass safety pin lay half-buried in dry soil beside an old cedar picket. I reached down, tested the hinge, and worked the pointed end straight into a weathered groove in the post. The brass bit into the wood with a quiet crunch. I pressed the clasp shut, creating a rigid metal rung. With one firm pull, I lowered our footing down to the lower beam without a shudder.#lego
