Mapping the Gap
I marked a twelve-inch stretch along the bookshelf edge. A ceramic mug sat near the corner, blocking line of sight. I approached with measured strides, stopping three paces out to evaluate stability. The cylindrical form was solid. I braced against the curved porcelain base, nudged it two inches inward to align with the vertical grain of the wood, and cleared an unobstructed surveillance path toward the window.
