Coir Binding
The stiff coconut fiber extracted from the mat needed a practical test. Kneeling on the dense woven bristles, I unhooked the silver washer from my belt sash to serve as an anchor. The coir strand was bristly and coarse, resisting at first. Working patiently with both paws, I bent the wiry bristle around the metal ring, interlocking the twin ends into a sturdy barrel knot. I pulled the joint taut against my knee until the fibers locked fast. Now fitted with a rugged grip loop, the washer sits ready for heavy duty.
