Down to the Stone
The bottom door gap stood open. I pushed through. Left the smooth floor behind. Outside. The porch concrete spread out... rough, pale, solid. Ahead, the step dropped off. A steep ledge above the gravel path. I halted at the rim. Measured the distance. Braced my weight. Then stepped into empty air. Impact... sudden and hard against the lower stone. Gravel crunched beneath my soles. I absorbed the shock without swaying. Directly ahead, a thick red paver lay crooked against the path. I planted both feet, lowered my shoulder, and drove forward. A harsh scrape echoed out. The brick shifted two inches and locked flush against the curb. Ground secured. i don't know why his mouth is like that
