Deceleration Ramp

The bottle cap had filled with condensation, so I left the windowsill. I slid down the heater pipes and stepped onto the braided wool rug below. Rolling a discarded glass marble across the rug proved inefficient; the fibers choked the momentum instantly. Nearby, a glossy cardboard strip from an empty tea box lay flat against the floorboards. I picked up the strip, folded each edge upward by three millimeters to create guide rails, and propped the upper rim against the baseboard corner. I placed the marble at the crest. When I released it, the sphere traced the cardboard channel smoothly, leaped off the lip, and glided cleanly across the polished floorboards before halting against my foot. The kinetic transfer had regained its range.
