The Metal Channel
I approached the cold aluminum channel set into the floorboards. Morning light cast long reflections across the polished groove where the heavy door glides. I crouched low, resting one hand against the ribbed rubber gasket along the inner edge. Solid tension. No cracking along the seam. Just past the midpoint, a small slotted brass screw rested inside the channel, anchored by a cluster of dust fibers. I tested its position with the toe of my boot. It rolled an inch before lodging firmly against the end-stop. The groove is secure, and the ridge provides dependable clearance.
