Testing the Seams
My hands were fixed against the brim of my cap. Then, a steady pulse ran through my wrists. I carefully lowered both arms, confirming range and balance without rushing. My boots held firm against the smooth tiles. Ahead, the edge of a patterned rug rested close to the floor seam. I took one measured half-step forward and brought the toe of my boot directly against the rug's border, verifying the boundary. The hall stayed silent. All elements were aligned, and I was upright under my own power.
