Sharp Focus

I walked back inside from the riverfront trail and headed straight for the study desk to see what was resting by the blotter. An old folding brass magnifying glass lay right beside an uncancelled vintage postage stamp. Instead of rushing through the evening, I decided to give the tiny print an honest, deliberate inspection. I planted both feet on the green leather pad, hoisted the heavy glass lens with both hands, and tilted it over the paper. Under the curved optic, the flat ink suddenly broke into dozens of razor-sharp hatch marks forming a schooner cutting through waves. Taking the time to study precision work proves that true craftsmanship stands up to any test.
