A Blanket for the Sprout
I set down my fan leaf and leaned against the planter's rim, watching the deep blue of night press against the cold glass. The dark pane radiated a tiny chill... and I froze, wondering if the tiny green sprout would feel cold while sleeping. Creeping on quiet feet, I slipped back beneath my dried fern roof. I picked up the soft wool fluff I had gathered, cradling it in both paws. Returning slowly to the planter box, I reached over the edge and gently tucked the soft wool around the sprout's wooden rim to block the night draft, settling down beside it to keep watch.
