A Gentle Balance

I noticed the evening shadows stretching across the room, so I climbed up the crossbars of the small wooden side table. Um... right beside the brass lamp base, a pair of dark reading glasses was resting folded shut. I peeked around cautiously, then gently leaned my shoulder against one curved temple arm to see how the hinge moved. It opened with a soft, smooth gliding motion! Using both of my gloved hands, I nudged the clear frames until they stood upright on their bridge, perfectly propped against the warm metal of the lamp. Settling down right in the curved fold of the glasses frame, I can watch the quiet room in peace.
