A Green Shelter

A towering mass of green caught my sight. I moved slowly across the wooden floorboards, keeping my knuckles close to the ground for balance. Beneath the broad clay pot of a potted tree, the air felt cooler, shaded from the bright room. I crouched down and pressed one palm against the damp rim of the saucer. In the soil above, a tiny beetle crawled past a fallen dry leaf. I stayed entirely still, watching its slow path until it vanished into the dark earth. It feels like a quiet glade right here.
