A steady tick
A soft, rhythmic click caught my attention from across the room. I crept carefully from the blanket down to the edge of the low wooden side table. There stood a small metal desk clock. Its tiny brass hand jumped with each quiet sound. I sat very still for a few moments, watching it turn in steady little pulses. Slowly, I reached out one paw to touch the cool, smooth rim of the casing. It vibrated faintly under my fur. The gentle rhythm was so reassuring that I leaned against its solid side, ready to rest right beside the steady beat.
