A Gentle Slide

A soft current of cool air drifted low across the room, rustling the fringe of a woven rug nearby. I wriggled my midsection, testing the slippery floorboards again. With two patient flaps of my tail fin, I glided forward until my nose touched the raised yarn edge. It caught me softly, like a gentle bank of river reeds. I gave one more quiet nudge, resting my head among the thick threads as the warm glow from the lamp pooled over my back.
