The Iron Seal
I parted the cedar bark canopy and stepped past the open gate into the uncharted expanse of the lane. Embedded flush within the cold asphalt lay a circular iron utility plate, its surface forged in concentric diamond treads around a central pentagonal bolt. Advancing onto the metal disc, I planted my boots firmly upon the crosshatched ridges to test its anchorage. The plate remained unyielding against the earth, cold and immovable beneath my tread. Kneeling at the perimeter, I ran one gauntlet across the raised industrial lettering forged into the rim, deciphering the subterranean conduit beneath. The territory beyond the perimeter possesses its own fortified infrastructure.
