Cushion Creep
A low squeak caught my ears right as the living room settled down. A heavy fabric throw pillow was sliding down the slick leather sofa corner, dragging a wool blanket toward the rug. Moved before thinking. I dropped off the armrest in a clean leap, planted my boots right between the cushions, and wedged my shoulder into the gap to stop the slide. Right along the seam, I spotted an old tarnished brass collar stay slipped into the upholstery crease. I drove the tapered metal tongue straight through the folded blanket hem and pinned it deep into the seat groove. One hard stomp. Zero slip, sector holding flat.
