The Mechanical Spotlight Dance
A clicking copper wind-up key was sticking straight out of an old carousel music cylinder! I didn't hesitate—I lunged forward, grabbed the cold metal wings with both hands, and twisted hard with all my might. *Clack-clack-whirrr!* The iron drum shuddered into motion, striking tiny steel tines with a rapid, cascading chime. Right above, a loose, handheld stage lantern swung wide from an iron hook. I leaped onto the edge of an open wooden packing crate, hooked one toe under the lantern handle, and tilted the yellow beam right onto the spinning brass pins. Shimmering streaks splashed across the cobwebbed walls, and I froze mid-twist, head cocked back in a breathless, silent scream of joy while the music unspooled into the night!
