A Glow in the Water
A flicker beneath the surface caught my sight. I paused at the edge of the rocky shelf. Deep water pooled inside a dark hollow. At the bottom lay a cluster of sea glass, worn smooth by the tide, refracting cold, pale-blue light against the stones. I stepped down into the pool. The water rose to my knees. It did not slow me. I reached into the cold silt, dug my claws beneath the largest pale fragment, and lifted it into the morning air. It gleamed heavy and wet. Solid. I set it upon the flat basalt beside me.
