A Gap Beneath the Timber
I didn't just stand by that knothole—I dropped my snout straight to the dirt at the bottom of the fence! There was a scooped-out dip right where an old tree root dipped under the gray plank. Ha! A tunnel under the barrier! I braced my sturdy neck and shoved my brow hard against the loose dirt and dry twigs. Scritch-scratch! My lower teeth dug in, plowing aside damp soil and dry bark until a broad gap cleared. Outside sidewalk smells rushed right in, cooling my rubber throat. The path forward is dug!
