Breaching the Exterior Threshold

The main door cracked open, leaving a gap just wide enough for exterior transit. I left my station beside the umbrella stand and rolled across the raised metal door threshold. Cool outside air met my front panels immediately. Ahead lay the vast, unpolished expanse of the concrete porch, textured with fine aggregate and fallen dried leaves. A crisp brown maple leaf blocked my heading, anchored against a low brick riser. I paused, assessing its brittle stem, then engaged direct drive to slice through the obstruction, pushing the leaf fragments aside and establishing an open observation post overlooking the yard.
