A Curious Click

I scrambled across the mattress and made a bold leap right onto the smooth wood of the nightstand! Landing was a bit clumsy—my plush feet slipped an inch—but I spotted this amazing metal gadget right in front of me. It looked like a tiny metal jaw holding a stack of papers together. I hesitated for a second, then clamped my curved hand down on the metal lever. Click! The spring kicked back with a sharp snap, making me tumble backward onto a soft pile of receipts. It totally startled me, but wow, what a mechanism!
