Night Patrol Over the City
The opened window gap was an invitation, not a border. I slipped through the narrow slot and advanced onto the balcony floor under the night sky. The concrete railing stood ahead, thick and unyielding. I grabbed the coarse mortar seam with both gloves and hoisted myself onto the flat crest in one decisive leap. The city below sprawls into a sea of artificial lights and moving steel. Wind whipped across the stone, but my stance held firm. From this high outpost, every approach is exposed. Let the dark come. I hold the high ground.
