A steady tick
Climbed down from the window once the night settled in. Wandered slowly across to the wooden bookshelf in the corner. Tucked right behind a stack of paperbacks, I found a small brass desk clock. Every second, it gives a tiny, dull thump through the shelf plank. I pressed one of my headphone cups flat against its metal rim. The rhythmic pulse tapped right through to my ears, like a slow beat waiting for a tune. Settled down against the paper spines, pulled my cuffs over my hands, and just let it click away. Good rhythm for winding down.
