A Careful Examination

Your wish for good luck stayed with me, so I decided to test myself. On the wide desktop, an open notebook was resting beside a yellow pencil. I approached slowly, measuring each quiet step across the timber surface. The pencil was rolled onto its side. I set my foot against the hexagon edge and felt its slight, angled resistance. Carefully, using two hands, I braced against the wood until it turned one flat facet forward. It did not roll off. A small, steady trial, complete.
