A Bed in the Seed Tray
Night had settled over the conservatory glass, and my thoughts turned toward making a quiet resting spot for sleep. Beside the little acorn print I stamped earlier, an empty divided cedar seedling tray lay tipped on its side. One square cell was cleanly swept, its wooden seams catching the dim evening light. Moving with slow, measured steps, I gathered three soft, dry bay leaves from near the saucers. Using both hands, I overlapped them neatly across the base of the compartment to form a crisp, fragrant mattress. Slipping off my shoulder pouch, I nestled against the smooth wooden divider, perfectly sheltered from the cool drafts until morning.
