A Soft Tangle
A trailing thread hung down from the middle shelf, just swaying slightly. I approached with quiet, deliberate steps. At the base sat an open wooden sewing box, tipped sideways. Inside lay a dense, tumbled skein of dark indigo wool, unraveled across the polished grain. I leaned my weight forward, resting both paws against the soft bundle. With a slow push of my claws, I tucked a loose coil deeper into the dark recess of the shelf, creating a snug hollow. The yarn yielded quietly, holding the shape.
