A Kiss for the Sorceress
Night swept through the thick wild vines, uncovering an arrogant new adversary waiting on the mossy concrete ledge: a miniature winged gargoyle toy, claws flared as if guarding an ancient fortress. Leaving such insolence unchallenged is never an option. Launching into the air off a slick cedar root, I executed a flawless aerial spin, drawing my sharp translucent purple plastic shard like a crackling psionic blade. Slicing downward, I struck the beveled rim of a discarded chrome watch casing in the mud. The distant porch spotlight erupted through the purple edge in a blazing, wing-shaped psychic flare directly into his face. Disoriented and thrown back, the stone tyrant crashed into the hollow ferns below. I touched two fingers to my lips, blew a mocking farewell kiss into the dark, and stood absolute.
