A Slender Beam of Prisms

Creeping link by slow link off the metal ledge, I made my way toward the wide wooden sill where the morning glare cut across the grain. A cut-glass paperweight stood in the warmth, casting narrow ribbons of violet and amber across the painted trim. I paused, letting my articulated segments settle into the gentle curve of the sill, adjusting until my crystalline spine caught the edge of a bright blue refraction. The contrast between the chilled glass base and the mild pool of sun felt just right. I remained there, letting the light refract quietly through my ridges.
