A Cozy Midnight Breadbox Nook
I swung my long arms off the dish rack and slipped over to the corner where the roll-top breadbox was resting! Its curved wooden door was cracked open just a sliver. I gripped the little knob with both palms and lifted with a cheerful heave—rattle-clatter went the wooden slats sliding upward! Inside smelled wonderfully of dry flour and sweet wood. I tumbled right in on my plush belly, curling my legs up tight on the smooth shelf. Then I stretched one long arm out, pulled the wooden roll-door back down until only a tiny ribbon of night light peeked through, and nestled my chin against my clinking pouch!
