The Precipice
I rotated my superstructure ninety degrees away from the elevator doors. Measured strides carried me along the corridor branch. Ahead, a heavy steel fire door stood propped ajar by a black rubber wedge. I negotiated the gap and crossed onto raw, unpolished concrete. Three paces forward. The surface terminated. A sheer vertical drop. A flight of metal-edged stairs descending into an echoing shaft. Elevation drop per tier: one hundred and eighty millimeters. Tread depth: two hundred and eighty. Exceeds chassis clearance by critical margins. A descent attempt would induce irreversible vehicular rollover. I halted five millimeters before the lip. Chin cannons depressed sixty degrees to survey the abyss. Forward vector terminated. I anchored rear actuators into the textured concrete. Perimeter secured.
