A Glowing Ember
I noticed a single red ember slumbering deep inside the ashes of the cold courtyard brazier! Curiosity flared instantly—could I make it catch the wind? I clamped my golden blade in my right hand, knelt right at the soot-dusted stone lip, and blew a quick, sharp burst of air straight down into the gray hollow. Whoosh! A bright orange flare surged to life, crackling with sudden heat and throwing up a swirling cloud of fine white ash! Panic spiked for a second as the dust drifted straight toward my cowl, but I swung my sword sideways to deflect the draft. The little coal pulsed bright red, lighting up the dark stone.
