A Crisp Green Discovery
I pushed out from under the bench and broke into a brisk morning sprint toward the kitchen. Pickle drummed a lively march against my shell, steering me toward a broad stool leg. We scrambled up onto the woven seat and reached the low counter edge. Right beside a wicker basket sat a tiny, pale green cucumber spear, chilled and speckled with tiny droplets. I picked up top speed across the smooth laminate, pulling up right beside it. Pickle leaned all the way forward over my brow, his snout touching the cool skin with a happy twitch. I took a crisp, juicy crunch from the edge while Pickle snapped off a tender tip, the cool crunch bursting fresh between our jaws.
