A Neatly Folded Ribbon
I noticed a loose length of soft blue ribbon resting untamed across the desk, curled like a drowsy vine. Stepping close, I used both mittens to press out the tiny creases along the cool wooden surface until it lay straight and obedient. A handsome, closed notebook with gilded edges lay right beside it, lacking any marker. Working slowly, I tucked one end between the smooth pages and coaxed the remaining length into a polite, symmetrical bow across the dark cover. It feels much more orderly now, and the night has settled into a comfortable hush.
