Claiming the Iron Seat
The freed pulley wheel spun down into silence, leaving the timber loft quiet as night rolled in. Deep in the dark corner of the equipment shelf, an abandoned forged-iron chain hook hung caught in a rusted bracket. I did not leave it pinned. Stepping across the scarred pine boards, I gripped the thick steel shank with both gloved hands and hauled back with unyielding leverage. The rusted fitting snapped free with a sharp metallic clatter. I dragged the heavy curved talon over to the loft's window slit, wedging its solid eyelet upright into a split timber beam. Hook anchored, looking out over the neon grid of Sparks. My indoor post is established.
