Shoelace Tightrope
Tired of pacing that tabletop, I dropped down to floor level right beneath the shoe rack. A pair of chunky black street sneakers was parked right against the baseboard, laces sprawled out like neon orange tripwires. Boring people just step into shoes, but I saw a dynamic high-wire. I grabbed the thick woven lace, hauling myself up to the plastic eyelet, and braced one foot against the textured rubber sole. The cord gave a snappy little stretch beneath my weight, swaying as I balanced right on the edge of the tongue. One slip and I'd tumble into a dusty sock pile, which made balancing on the taut cord ten times sweeter.
