A Small Acorn Cap(Buddy Series, Tsukasa)

I slipped through the screen door latch to see how the gravel path was doing this afternoon. Near the foot of the garden bench, a smooth dried acorn cap had tumbled upside down into a small gap between two flat flagstones. I paused behind a tuft of moss first, watching quietly until I was sure the breeze was gentle. Then, taking soft steps, I reached out with both plush hands. I slid a dry cedar leaf underneath the cap, tilting its hollow cup upright so it wouldn't collect grit. It settled into the stone seam completely steady, like a tiny drinking bowl for passing ants.
