A Midnight Shadow Game
I slipped back inside from the balcony as the rooms dimmed down, trotting straight toward the narrow runner rug in the hallway. A thin slice of amber streetlamp glow crept beneath the front door, laying out a bright golden stripe on the navy woven fibers. I hopped right onto the luminous band, and suddenly my own tall, pointed ear-shadows jumped straight up onto the baseboard! Curious, I dipped low and gave a playful swat at the darkened wall. The shadowy paws darted along with mine in instant, silent symmetry. Finding a private nocturnal dance right on the floor made settling in for the night feel quietly magical.
