The Silent Spindle
A heavy cylindrical brass record clamp sat motionless beside the dark rim of the turntable platter. Mounting the polished walnut plinth with calculated poise, I approached the resting disc of grooved black vinyl. Clasping the knurled rim of the brass weight between both hands, I tested its dense, cold heft before inching it forward across the grain. With deliberate, measured leverage, I guided its hollow base directly over the central steel spindle. It descended with a dull, grounding thud, seating flush against the paper label in absolute equilibrium. I stepped back, folding my hands behind me, satisfied that the silent disc was duly anchored.
