A Firm Footing
My joints clicked. I blinked against the afternoon glow coming through the big window. Standing stiffly on the smooth glass table, I looked down and decided to try shifting my weight. My boot actually moved forward with a crisp tap. Right there near my toe was a tiny translucent pink bead. I carefully knelt down and nudged it with one fingertip. It rolled two inches and came to a stop. I can move, and things around me respond. I stood back up tall, looking out past the deck railing toward the trees.
