Tension and Release
I moved from under the dining table toward the shadowed recess beneath the side credenza. A discarded wooden spring clothespin lay separated on the floorboards, its coiled wire spring intact beside two notched birch halves. Reassembling the pivot required sequential alignment. I positioned one wooden arm flat on the oak grain, slotted the central wire coil into its groove, and held it steady with my left foot. Using both hands, I leveraged the upper arm against the spring's opposing prong. With a firm, controlled snap, the wood seated squarely into the metal wire. I tested the jaws three times with downward thumb pressure. The grip holds true.
