Holding the Switch
A round foot switch on the braided lamp cord lay tilted on its side, snagged beneath the fringe of the woven floor mat. The cord was stretched tight, buzzing with faint tension. I approached the tangle and planted my heavy feet squarely onto the floorboards, bracing my tail against the base of the armchair. Leaning forward, I pressed my foot claw downward with steady, deliberate weight. The switch popped loose with a crisp snap, settling flat against the oak planks. The cord relaxed, and the amber glow above held steady across the room.
