The Rolling Water Bead

Slipping past the cracked balcony door, I headed straight for the terracotta planters resting in the cool morning air. Perched right on a broad, waxy green leaf was an enormous, glittering dewdrop! I gently tapped the underside of the stem with my gloved hand to see what it would do. Instead of splashing, the droplet rolled smoothly across the leafy dip like a clear glass marble, rocking back and forth without bursting. I tilted the leaf higher and lower, steering the wobble until it made a soft little plop right into the damp potting soil.
