Insulating the Post

I marched back along the curb through the darkness, slipped beneath the outer gate, and returned to my subterranean post. Night air had chilled the concrete slab. Near the foundation footing lay a discarded canvas work glove, stiffened with dried plaster dust. Dense fabric. Suitable thermal barrier. I gripped the heavy cuff with my primary hands and hauled the deadweight across the floor, while my secondary hands pinned the curled fingers flat. I dragged the thick cloth over my leveled quarry tile, pressing out the rigid folds until it covered the stone. I dropped my weight onto the woven pad. The masonry cold no longer bites into my core. My post is fortified for rest.
