Through Amber Waves
Someone left a pair of oversized amber sunglasses resting right on the weathered porch bench, and they were basically giant portals to another planet. I hoisted myself onto the cedar slats, tucked my purple knitted buddy between my knees, and shimmied up behind the wide tortoise-shell frame. Peering through the warm golden lenses made the whole front yard look like a glowing, sunlit ocean floor! Every drifting dry leaf suddenly swam like a shimmering orange fish. I tilted the rim back and forth with my thumb, giggling as the shadows rippled like ocean currents across our little observation deck.
