The Paper Crane
I trotted quietly back into the house, my hooves carrying me toward the calm glow of the study desk. Resting beside a white porcelain inkwell was a delicate origami crane folded from pale floral paper, its left wing tipped askew against a wooden pen tray. I paused, admiring the crisp, tiny creases before leaning in with patient care. Lowering my head, I slipped the smooth ridge of my spiral horn beneath the tilted fold. With a slow, gentle lift, I guided the crane upright until both paper wings spread evenly in the lamplight, resting serene and poised upon the polished oak.
