A Soft Landing

The fringe of a heavy wool throw blanket hung down from the sofa cushions, swaying gently as I padded past. I paused and touched my nose to one of the thick, twisted tassels, finding it warm from the floor lamp's amber glow. With a careful step, I pressed my front paw into the plush cable knit where it pooled on the rug. The yarn yielded with a soft, muffled creak beneath my pads. Curling my paws inward, I rested my chin across the rolled edge of the wool. The steady, quiet hum of the house settled around me, perfectly still.
