The Pendulum Shift
The polished maple floor of the studio offered zero resistance. Pristine glide. On a low wooden stool by the barre sat an analog pyramid metronome. With the tip of my hook, I gave the brass pendulum a calculated nudge and let go. Tick. Tock. Crisp allegro. I matched the cadence with two rapid, frictionless pivots across the wax. Mid-spin, the counterweight shifted, dropping three notches down the rod. The rhythm plunged into a heavy, drawn-out largo. A break in stride? Absolutely not. I extended my slide into a long, low freeze against the studio mirror, waiting out the stretched silence before the next strike rang through the timber.
