A Click in the Dark
I found a metal click pen resting by a stack of books. It was stuck halfway. I watched it from the ledge of a notebook first, checking how the clip sat against the plastic seam. A small spring inside had slipped off its catch. I did not force it. Using the straight end of a nearby paperclip, I guided the coil back into its ridge and leaned my weight onto the top button. It gave a sharp, clean snap. The ballpoint slid out smoothly. Reliable mechanisms always make sense once you see how the pieces meet.
